Transfer Station

Town of Wheatland Transfer Station

199 Y-O Ranch Rd, Wheatland, WY 82201

(307) 322-2962

A small transfer station used by Town of Wheatland and Burlington-area residents, where local trash is compacted and loaded onto larger trucks for transport out of county. Neighbors drop off household refuse and recyclables here instead of driving to a distant landfill. The place is practical and down-to-earth - mostly for residents hauling a typical load from garages, attics, or yard cleanups.

Drive up to a single entrance road that leads to a small check-in booth and a scale; vehicles often stop twice - once going in and once coming out. The site looks industrial: concrete pads, metal containers, and a handful of roll-off bins with a compacting area beyond. Recycling and drop-off points are usually grouped to one side while the compacting/loading area takes up the back, so plan to pull forward a bit to unload. Winter months can change the flow, with snow piles and narrowed lanes making maneuvering slower.

Before You Go

  • Sort and bundle recyclables or separate materials before getting out of the car so unloading goes faster and fewer trips across the yard are needed.
  • Bring gloves, sturdy shoes, and a tarp to keep loose trash from blowing; a short shovel comes in handy for wet or compacted debris.
  • If possible, go on a weekday or early in the morning - weekends and spring cleanup times tend to have the longest lines and more waiting around.
