Riverton Landfill

743 Sand Draw, Riverton, WY 82501

(307) 332-7040

Riverton Landfill is the municipal dump out on Sand Draw that most people in the area use for household cleanouts and contractors hauling in from surrounding ranches and towns. It's the kind of place that handles big regional volumes, so expect it to be set up for large trucks as well as pickup loads. Locals drop off everything from yard debris to construction junk here.

Drive up the long access road to a gate and pass a small scale - they charge by weight, so most vehicles stop twice, once in and once out. There’s a little booth where attendants check in loads before directing drivers to the active cell; the working face and rows of compacted dirt mounds are easy to spot from the road. The site is open, dusty in dry weather and muddy after rains, with heavy equipment moving around so follow directions and stay clear of loaders. Recycling or drop-off bins, if present, are usually grouped near the entrance area rather than out by the burial cells.

Before You Go

  • Secure and tarp any loose material so trash doesn’t blow out on the road; it’s common to see pickup loads shed debris on the way in.
  • Avoid weekend mornings or spring cleanup days if possible - lines and wait times can build up fast when everyone shows up at once.
  • Sort bulky items and recyclables before you pull into the gate so unloading goes faster and fewer trips across the site are needed.
