Transfer Station

Town of Rome Transfer Site

1371 Apache Ave, Nekoosa, WI 54457

(715) 325-8021

Town of Rome Transfer Site is the small transfer station out on Apache Ave that locals use to drop off household trash and recyclables instead of driving to a distant landfill. People from Nekoosa and nearby townships swing by with pickup loads or trailers. It's the practical place for routine cleanouts and seasonal junk.

There’s an entrance booth and a scale to stop at, since loads are weighed and then compacted for transport elsewhere. Drive slowly through the lot and follow the traffic flow to the drop-off lanes and compactors; larger vehicles may need a bit more room to maneuver. Recycling bins and containers sit off to the side of the main drop area, so watch for them as pieces of equipment and trucks are moving about. In winter the layout can feel tighter and procedures sometimes change, so dress for the weather and be ready for snow or ice in the lot.

Before You Go

  • Bring help for heavy items-loading and unloading are done from the vehicle so a second set of hands speeds things up.
  • Have stuff sorted before getting to the booth: keeping trash, recyclables, and large bulky items separated saves time in the lanes.
  • Expect lines on weekends and during spring cleanup; arriving midweek or early in the morning often shortens the wait.
