Sun Prairie Recycling Center is the local recycling drop-off in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, used by residents hauling household recyclables and the odd bulk item. Located on S Bird St, it’s the kind of place people swing by during cleanups or when a garage gets full of cardboard and cans.

Like many county-run recycling centers in Wisconsin, the site has an entrance booth and obvious traffic flow, so vehicles pull up, get directed, and then back into the collection areas. Recycling bins and trailers sit out in the open, usually grouped by material - paper and cardboard, plastics and metal, glass. The site is outdoors and fairly large; a pickup or trailer makes dropping off bulky loads easier than trying to squeeze everything into a car.

Before You Go

  • Keep materials sorted and flattened before getting to the center - it speeds unloading and keeps lines moving.
  • Avoid weekend middays during spring cleanup if possible; those times get noticeably backed up.
  • Bring straps or a tarp for loose items in a truck bed so things don’t blow out while waiting in line.
