Recycling Center

Milwaukee Self Help Recycling Center

6660 N Industrial Rd, Milwaukee, WI 53223

A neighborhood recycling center tucked into the industrial area north of town, used mostly by residents dropping off bags and boxes from house cleanouts. Folks swing by with anything from curbside overflow to small bulk items. It’s the kind of place people go when the blue cart or township pickup won’t handle everything.

Drive in off N Industrial Road and you’ll see open bays and large containers set out for different materials; it looks more like a working yard than a storefront. Staff operate a small entrance/exit booth where traffic is directed and vehicles pull up to unload at the appropriate container. Common items accepted at centers like this usually include paper, cardboard, glass, metals, and many plastics, with periodic programs for electronics or bulky item drop-offs. Since much of the sorting happens on-site, be ready to separate materials into bags or boxes before getting to the containers.

Before You Go

  • Sort and box materials before getting to the site so unloading is quick and neighbors behind aren’t stuck waiting.
  • Dress for the weather in winter-most of the drop-off areas are outside and the ground can be icy or slushy.
  • Avoid weekends during spring cleanup if possible; those Saturdays get backed up and lines form into the street.
