LaCrosse Transfer Station

415 Island St., Lacrosse, WI 54603

800-963-4776

LaCrosse Transfer Station is the small city transfer station on Island Street that locals use when hauling household trash or doing a big cleanout. People who don't want to drive out to a distant landfill drop loads here so trucks can take it the rest of the way. The site gets regular resident traffic, especially on weekends and during seasonal cleanups.

Drive up the access road and you'll see a staffed entrance booth and a scale-vehicles usually stop at the booth first and then cross the scale. The tipping area has compacting equipment and several bays; it's not huge but busy enough that backing space can be tight with trucks. Recycling bins and drop-off containers are grouped near the right side past the booth, and winter operations can mean different traffic patterns and limited space when snow piles up. Plan for a short pause while attendants direct where to pull in and where to dump.

Before You Go

  • Bring a tarp or secure cover for loose or light materials-windy days can scatter things around while waiting in line.
  • If hauling a trailer, approach slowly and watch the space behind larger trucks; maneuvering room is sometimes limited.
  • Sort what can be separated before getting to the gate so unloading goes quicker, especially on busy weekend afternoons.
