(608) 785-9572La Crosse County Solid Waste Department is the county-run disposal and recycling site just off Berlin Drive in La Crosse, used by local residents dropping off household trash, yard waste and recyclables. Neighbors swing by with pickups, trailers or carloads during cleanup projects and regular disposal runs. The facility feels like a working county lot rather than a retail place - big dumpsters, traffic lanes and an entrance booth are what stand out.
Expect to wait in a short line at an entrance booth on busy days and to have to pull up and follow staff directions before dumping. Vehicles typically cross a scale area so there’s a pause before and after unloading; loads are handled by you at the drop points rather than staff unloading for you. Recycling containers and yard waste piles are visible from the drive lanes and are separated from general trash, so plan to drive to different spots on site. In winter months, traffic patterns or access to some piles can change because of snow and ice.
