Buckhannon Waste Transfer Station

70 E Main St, Buckhannon, WV 26201

(304) 472-0915

Buckhannon Waste Transfer Station is the small-town transfer station on E. Main where residents bring larger household and yard loads to be compacted and trucked off to a landfill. It’s the sort of place locals use when a pickup or trailer is too full for curb service or when avoiding a long drive to a distant dump.

Drive up the short entrance lane and pass a booth and scale-loads are typically weighed, so plan for a stop on the way out. The tip area is a concrete pad with high walls and a place to dump; compactors and transfer trucks pull in and out regularly. The site looks utilitarian rather than pretty: dusty in dry weather and muddy after rain, with piles and a fair bit of truck traffic. Weekends, especially during spring cleanup, tend to have lines, so expect a bit of waiting at busy times.

Before You Go

  • Secure and cover any loose material before heading over-loose debris can blow out of a truck or trailer and creates extra work at the tip.
  • Wear gloves and sturdy closed-toe shoes; the tipping area often has sharp metal, nails, and uneven surfaces.
  • Try to go midweek or early in the morning if possible to avoid the weekend backlog during seasonal cleanups.
