(206) 477-4466Vashon Recycling and Transfer Station is the small island recycling center people use for household cleanouts and regular drop-offs. Locals swing by with bags of cans, cardboard, yard clippings and the occasional bulky item. It’s the spot neighbors point to when they need to keep things out of the landfill.
Pull up to a simple entrance with a small booth and follow the flow of cars to the recycling bins, which are usually grouped a short drive past the booth. There’s a scale for vehicles that need weighing, so expect to stop twice if hauling a load. Common materials handled at places like this include paper, cardboard, metal cans, glass, mixed plastics, yard waste and electronics, and there are often special collection events or programs for items that don’t belong in the regular bins. Weekends and spring cleanup times fill up quickly, so plan for a line and a bit of waiting.
Learn how to properly dispose of common items.
