Stevens County South Transfer Station

Grouse Creek Rd, Loon Lake, WA 99148

(509) 233-8941

Stevens County South Transfer Station is the small county transfer site off Grouse Creek Road in Loon Lake where locals drop off household trash and seasonal cleanups instead of driving to a far-off landfill. Neighbors, cottage owners and small farms around the lake use it for regular loads. As a transfer station, trash gets compacted here and hauled out to a landfill elsewhere.

There’s a modest entrance with a booth area and a place to pull up before moving into the drop-off lanes. Many transfer stations have a scale, so plan for a brief stop on the way out if that’s in use. Expect big containers or pits and compacting equipment; recycling and yard-waste boxes are commonly grouped to the side at Washington facilities. Lines build up on weekends and during spring cleanup, and larger trucks or trailers can slow things down.

Before You Go

  • Sort yard waste and recyclables at home first - Washington sites often require separation and it saves time at the drop-off.
  • Bring tarps and straps for loose loads so material doesn’t blow out while driving or dumping; that keeps things cleaner and quicker for the next vehicle.
  • Try to avoid weekend afternoons during spring cleanup season when pickups and trailers back up the entrance; early runs on less-busy days move faster.
