Transfer Station

LRI - Key Center Transfer Station

5900 Key Peninsula Hwy NW, Lakebay, WA 98351

(253) 847-7555

Small transfer station off Key Peninsula Highway that locals use when hauling household junk or yard clippings instead of driving to the big landfill. Mostly residential cars and pickups show up here with trailers. It’s the place to drop stuff that gets compacted and trucked out of the area.

Drive up to a single entrance with an attendant booth near the driveway and a scale you’ll cross while coming and going. The yard and recycling drop-off spots are easy to spot-bins and piles sit to the right after the booth, with a larger tipping area straight ahead for general loads. Vehicles pull up to the edge of the tipping floor to dump; trailers need to be backed in carefully because the ramps can be a bit steep. Lines build on weekend mornings and spring cleanup days, so expect some waiting and a short back-and-forth on the scale before leaving.

Before You Go

  • Sort out yard waste and recyclables at home-Washington facilities usually require separation and it speeds things up.
  • Contain loose stuff in boxes or tie down loads; wind can send debris everywhere when dumping from a pickup or trailer.
  • Try to go midweek or later in the afternoon to avoid the busiest times; bring something to cover a load if it’s windy or dusty.
