Transfer Station

Key Center Transfer Station

5900 Key Peninsula Hwy NW, Lakebay, WA 98349

(253) 847-7555

A no-frills transfer station on the Key Peninsula where locals drop household and yard stuff that then gets compacted and hauled out to a landfill. Neighbors, small contractors and anyone who'd rather not drive to a distant landfill use this spot for regular cleanups.

A small entrance booth and a scale are typically near the driveway; charges are usually based on weight, so expect to stop at the scale both coming in and leaving. Vehicles pull up, sort materials into different containers or bays, and then move on while large trucks handle the rest. The site looks industrial - concrete pads, big roll-off containers and a lot of pickup trucks - and lines can build up on weekends or during spring yard cleanup.

Before You Go

  • Sort yard waste and recyclables before driving in; Washington facilities commonly require separation and it speeds the visit.
  • Secure and tarp loose loads so debris doesn’t blow out during the trip and so unloading is quicker.
  • Allow extra time on weekend mornings and be ready to back up or maneuver - bring gloves and a hand truck or straps for heavy items.
