Smith Gap Regional Landfill is the big county-style dump out on Bradshaw Road near Salem, used by homeowners and contractors alike. Because it’s a regional landfill rather than a small transfer station, expect large earth cells, heavy equipment, and regular commercial traffic.
There’s a scale house/booth and a vehicle scale as part of the normal flow, so plan for a stop to be weighed and charged by weight or by load. Pull up to the scale area first, then follow signs or traffic to the active dumping face where trucks and trailers unload. The site is open and dusty on dry days, with bulldozers and compactors moving dirt and debris around. Weekends and spring cleanup times can mean lines and slower processing, especially for larger loads.
