Prince George County Landfill on Union Branch Rd just outside Petersburg is where county garbage ends up when curbside pickup won’t take it. People from the area-homeowners with truckloads and folks hauling trailers-use it for things that don’t fit in a regular bin.
There’s an entrance booth and a scale, so expect to stop for a weigh-in and then again on the way out since tipping fees at landfills are usually charged by weight or per load. Pull up to the scale area, then follow the gravel lanes toward the active dumping area where signs or cones point the way. The site looks like big dirt piles and turned-over cells with heavy equipment moving around; dust and uneven ground are normal. Weekends, especially during spring cleanup, tend to get backed up and slow.
