King George Transfer Station

11221 State Rte 704, King George, VA 22485

(540) 775-5512

King George Transfer Station is the local transfer station for King George County residents who don’t want to drive out to a distant landfill. People dropping off household loads, small construction debris, or recycling use it as a quicker option to get material compacted and sent off site. It’s the kind of place that sees a steady trickle during weekdays and busier traffic on weekend cleanup days.

Expect an entrance booth and a scale where vehicles are weighed - stopping twice (in and out) is common at transfer stations. Pull up slowly into the lane, wait your turn, and follow the flow of trucks and other cars; the tipping floor and compactors are set back from the entrance. The site is mostly paved with large concrete bunkers or bays for different loads, and there’s usually room to maneuver larger trucks and trailers. Lines can form on Saturdays or during spring cleanup, so plan a little extra time if going on a weekend.

Before You Go

  • Secure loads with tarps and straps before leaving home so nothing shifts while driving or during unloading.
  • Bring gloves and sturdy shoes; the tipping area can be dusty or slick and handling odd items bare-handed is awkward.
  • Avoid peak windows like weekend mornings in spring if possible - arriving midweek or later in the afternoon will often be quicker.
