White Hills Class I Landfill is the big county landfill just off SR-137 near Gunnison. Neighbors doing large cleanouts and commercial haulers both come here when there’s too much for the curb or the transfer station.
There’s a scale and an entrance booth where trucks and pickups line up to be weighed; tipping fees are typically charged by weight, so expect a weigh-in as part of the visit. The site is large and dusty with long dirt roads, piles and compacted cells, and heavy equipment moving about. Commercial loads are handled differently than small residential drop-offs, usually with separate routing or fee categories. Weekends and spring cleanup times can get backed up, so there may be a wait when it’s busy.
