Wood County Landfill

2589 Co Rd 3940, Hawkins, TX 75765

(903) 769-3645

Small county landfill just off County Road 3940 that locals and small haulers use for regular trash drops. It's the kind of place where pickup trucks, trailers and commercial roll-offs show up - not a big city transfer station. Expect a working, out-in-the-open site rather than a tidy public park.

There's a drive-in entrance with a scale house where trucks stop to be weighed; tipping fees are calculated by weight, so vehicles usually pass the scale twice. The footprint is fairly large with visible landfill cells and dirt roads; pull up to the booth, get directed, then head to the active dumping area. Commercial loads are accepted, though larger haulers will follow different routing and may be directed to specific unloading spots. Lines can form, particularly on weekends and during spring cleanup, so plan for a short wait at peak times.

Before You Go

  • Secure loose material with a tarp or straps so nothing blows out while driving through the site.
  • Have the vehicle positioned and ready to drive onto the scale when approaching the booth to keep traffic moving.
  • Avoid busy weekend mornings if possible; weekday mid-mornings usually move quicker.
