Waste Management - Sam Houston Transfer Station

1138 W Sam Houston Pkwy N, Houston, TX 77043

(713) 467-9412

Small transfer station off W Sam Houston Pkwy N that locals drop household junk and smaller loads at instead of driving out to a landfill. Neighbors, handymen and small haulers tend to use it when a full-size landfill trip would be a hassle. The site looks like a typical commercial transfer point - compacting happens on site and loads get hauled out to a landfill elsewhere.

Drive up to a gated entrance with an attendant booth and a few lanes for cars and trucks to pull through. There’s usually a scale and a short stop at the booth area; vehicles are routed into the tipping area where dumpsters and compactors sit behind concrete walls. The yard is noisy and dusty at times, with large roll-off containers and transfer trailers moving in and out. Weekends and spring-cleaning days commonly have lines, so expect a bit of waiting during peak times.

Before You Go

  • Bring a tarp or straps to keep loose debris secure so nothing falls out while driving to and from the station.
  • Drive slowly inside the facility; watch for large trucks and swinging trailer doors when pulling up to the drop-off point.
  • Sort bulky items in the truck bed so unloading is quicker - separate mattresses or furniture from bagged household trash to save time at the tipping area.
