Galveston County Landfill

Galveston County Landfill, 3935 Avenue A, Alta Loma, 77510, Texas

Galveston County Landfill in Alta Loma (near La Marque) is the county dump where household trash and commercial hauls end up buried. Locals, county crews and hauling companies all use it, so expect a working, no-frills place.

There’s a scale and an entrance booth, so vehicles get weighed on the way in and out under the landfill’s weight-based tipping fee system. Pull up to the booth, then follow the drive to the tipping area - there’s room for trucks to back up to the active cell. The site is large with dirt roads, mounded cells and heavy equipment moving around; dust and truck traffic are normal. Weekends and neighborhood spring-cleanup times can get backed up with pickup trucks and roll-offs waiting their turn.

Before You Go

  • Keep loads easy to unload: loose piles and mixed debris slow things down, so sort and untarp before getting to the tip face.
  • Secure and cover loads for the drive in to prevent litter on the road, and leave room to maneuver when backing up to dump.
  • Plan extra time for the weigh-in/out process and expect longer waits on weekends or during bulk-trash season.
