Fort Hood Landfill

Fort Hood Landfill, Turkey Run Rd & Base Rd, Fort Hood, 76544, Texas

Fort Hood Landfill is the on-base landfill at Fort Hood where solid waste is buried and left as the final disposal point. Military units, base operations and commercial haulers use this site for larger loads that aren’t going to a transfer or recycling center. It’s the kind of place you drive to when trash needs to be taken off the property and put in the ground.

There’s an entrance booth and a scale near the gate, so plan on stopping to be weighed in and out - tipping fees are charged, commonly by weight or volume. Pull up to the booth area and then follow the access road toward the tipping face; the site is mostly dirt and gravel with large mounded cells and staging piles. Commercial loads do come through here, so the process can feel like a commercial-scale operation with trucks lining up. Weekends and seasonal cleanups pack the line, and movement around the site can be slow during those times.

Before You Go

  • Secure and tarp loads tightly before getting to the gate; loose trash and debris make unloading slower and messier on site.
  • Leave the truck bed clear and accessible so tipping is quick - having materials sorted by type can speed things up at the face.
  • Aim for midweek or early morning to avoid the weekend backup; heavy traffic is common during spring cleanup and other busy periods.
