Caliche Canyon Landfill

Caliche Canyon Landfill, 8425 N. Avenue P, Lubbock, 79403, Texas

Caliche Canyon Landfill is the county landfill out on N. Avenue P in Lubbock, used by local residents, landscapers and commercial haulers who need a place to bury trash. It’s a big open site - not a neat transfer station - so expect something that looks and operates like a working landfill.

Drive up a short access road to a small scale/booth area where trucks are weighed; fees are typically charged by weight so plan for a stop on the way in and again on the way out. After the booth, there are dirt roads and large dumping cells or piles, and attendants will point drivers to the right spot to unload. The site is exposed - dusty in dry weather and muddy after rain - with room for big trucks but lines can form, especially on weekends and during spring cleanups. Commercial loads are commonly handled at facilities like this, so larger trucks and trailers are a normal sight.

Before You Go

  • Cover loads with a tarp and secure loose material before getting on-site to avoid fines or messes and to keep debris from blowing off during travel.
  • Expect to stop at the scale twice; have a way to keep track of any paperwork or weight ticket that gets handed out so the exit is quick.
  • Avoid the busiest times if possible - early mornings on weekdays are usually quicker - and dress for sun, dust or mud since there’s little shelter around the tipping area.
