White County Landfill

6010 Gum Springs Mountain Rd, Sparta, TN 38583

(931) 761-3358

White County Landfill is the county landfill out on Gum Springs Mountain Road that handles the final disposal of trash for Sparta and surrounding areas. Locals, contractors, and haulers use this place when the transfer stations or convenience centers aren’t enough. It’s a working landfill-big piles, heavy equipment, and the sort of place where loads get buried rather than sorted for recycling.

Drive up the long access road and you’ll see a scales booth where vehicles stop to be weighed; tipping fees at landfills like this are commonly charged by weight with minimum charges for small loads. Pull up to the drop-off area indicated by the scale attendant or signage, then dump the load where directed and drive back over the scale to get a final weight. The site is mostly gravel and compacted dirt with large berms and earth-moving equipment around; anticipate dust and some noise from machinery. Lines can form, especially on weekends and during spring cleanup periods, so there may be a short wait before getting to the booth.

Before You Go

  • Cover and secure loose material so nothing blows out on the road; tarps and tied loads save time and cleanup.
  • Have vehicle ID and any business paperwork for commercial loads handy, since commercial haulers are usually treated differently than residential customers.
  • Expect to stop twice - once in and once out at the scale - so consolidate items in the truck bed beforehand to speed the unload and avoid extra trips.
