Landfill

Republic Services Carter Valley Landfill

2825 W Carters Valley Rd, Church Hill, TN 37642

(423) 357-6777

A working landfill on the outskirts of Church Hill where household and business trash ends up being buried. Locals and contractors both use it, especially when county convenience centers are full or for bigger loads. It's a big, open site with heavy equipment moving trash and cover material around.

Drive past an entrance booth and over a scale - tipping fees at landfills are usually charged by weight, so expect to stop for weighing both in and out. Trucks and trailers queue up on busy days; weekends and spring cleanups tend to be the slowest-moving times. The tipping area is a large paved pad or dirt apron where attendants direct where to dump, and there are mounded cells and roll-off containers visible from the drop zone. Vehicles leave by crossing the scale again to record the final weight before exiting.

Before You Go

  • Bring a tarp or secure straps for loose loads; wind and passing trucks can scatter lighter items.
  • Arrive early on weekends or during seasonal cleanups to avoid long lines and tight backing situations.
  • Know what’s in the load and separate obvious recyclables if possible - it makes unloading faster and avoids extra handling at the drop pad.
