Construction Debris: What You Can (and Can't) Take to the Dump
Renovating your home? Drywall, lumber, concrete, and roofing materials have different disposal rules than regular trash. Here's what to know.
Read more →Poplar View Landfill is the large county landfill out on McMillan Station Road that locals and small businesses use when trash needs to go to the final disposal site. Trucks, trailers and residents with big cleanup hauls show up here; commercial loads are accepted so it’s not just a neighborhood drop-off.
There’s a scale at the entrance so vehicles stop to be weighed and then stop again on the way out - tipping fees are charged by weight rather than by load count. A small entrance booth and gate control traffic flow; pull up to the booth first and follow the arrows or staff directions for where to tip. The site is expansive with long, dusty drive lanes and visible landfill cells and equipment working the piles; wear shoes that can handle mud or gravel. Recycling or drop-off bins, if present, are usually positioned near the entry or along the first drive - keep an eye out for them as you pull in.
