Meadow Branch Landfill is the county landfill just outside Athens where residents and local haulers bring household trash and larger loads. It’s a plain, working site-big enough to spot heavy equipment and earth berms from the road. People use it for regular pickups, yard cleanups and commercial trash runs.
Pull in off County Road 166 and you’ll see a scale and a small entrance booth where vehicles stop briefly; plan to be weighed and then pull forward to the tipping area. The tipping zone is up a short gravel lane with open cells and compacted dirt-heavy machinery is usually moving around, so watch for trucks. Tipping fees at places like this are commonly charged by weight or per load, and landfills of this scale generally accept commercial haulers as well as residential vehicles. Lines can form on weekend mornings and during seasonal cleanups, and the site can get dusty or muddy depending on the weather.
