Rapid City Landfill at 5555 S. Hwy 79 is the place where household trash and contractor loads get buried outside town. Pickup trucks, trailers and commercial haulers all show up here; it’s the obvious spot for big cleanups and construction debris.
There’s a scale and a small entrance booth - landfills typically charge by weight, so expect to stop on the way in and again on the way out. The site is large and mostly gravel: mounded cells, heavy equipment moving around, and open dumping lanes. Tipping fees are usually figured by weight with different rates for residential versus commercial loads, and landfills of this scale generally accept commercial deliveries. Lines build up on weekends and during spring cleanup, so allow extra time.
