Sumter County Recycling Center

2680 Stamey Livestock Rd, Sumter, SC 29150

(803) 494-9392

Small county recycling center in Sumter that locals use to drop off household recyclables and some bulk items. People from town and nearby rural roads bring cardboard, paper, bottles, cans and other common recyclables here. The place is practical and familiar to anyone who spends time clearing out a garage or prepping for hurricane season.

Drive in off Stamey Livestock Road and you'll see a modest entrance with a booth and lanes for traffic; pull up to the booth first before moving on. The recycling bins and collection bays are visible from the entrance, usually clustered to the right with larger drop-off areas straight ahead. Load your car or truck, pull up to the appropriate container, and tip or place items as directed by on-site signs. Weekends can be busy, and larger loads may require a little more maneuvering because of truck traffic and other people unloading.

Before You Go

  • Sort cardboard, paper, plastics and glass at home and flatten boxes - it speeds things up and saves space at the drop-off.
  • Bring rope or straps for mattresses, furniture or loose loads so nothing blows off during transport; beds and couches tend to be awkward to handle.
  • Avoid peak weekend times if possible; early weekday mornings usually have fewer vehicles and make backing trailers or large trucks easier.
