Central Landfill on Shun Pike is the big burial site for trash in Johnston - both residents and commercial haulers drop loads there. It’s a working industrial site with heavy equipment and large earthen mounds visible from the road. The place handles large volumes, so expect a busy, no-frills setup.
Pull up to an entrance booth and a vehicle scale; stops at the scale are part of the process since tipping fees are assessed by weight. The site is mostly dirt roads and open cells with loaders and trucks moving material around. After weighing, vehicles head to the active tipping area to unload and then back over the scale to record the outbound weight. Weekends and spring cleanup times can get backed up, so there are often lines of trucks and trailers.
