Wasco County Landfill

2550 Steele Rd, The Dalles, OR 97058

(541) 296-4082

Small regional landfill serving The Dalles and surrounding Wasco County communities. Locals and small businesses use it for loads that need final disposal, and commercial trucks also drop off here. The site is the county's place for burying refuse rather than recycling or reuse.

Drive up to an entrance booth and be prepared to pull up onto a scale; tipping fees are charged by weight so vehicles are weighed in and out. The site is wide open with dirt and gravel roads, walking paths between working faces, and heavy equipment moving around - wear closed-toe shoes and stay back from machinery. There’s usually a defined spot to stop for small loads and a separate lane where larger commercial trucks unload. In Oregon, many facilities require sorting beforehand, so expect rules about recyclables and bottle deposits to affect what gets accepted.

Before You Go

  • Have your load secured and sorted before getting to the booth so the drop-off goes faster and the staff can direct you where to go.
  • Expect to be weighed twice - on the way in and on the way out - since charges are per ton or per hundredweight rather than per vehicle.
  • Avoid weekend mornings in spring and early summer if possible; those times often have the longest lines and the working areas can be busier with trucks.
