Transfer Station

Lane County Transfer Station

43843 McKenzie Hwy, Walterville, OR 97489

(541) 896-3643

A small transfer station out on the McKenzie Highway that locals use when hauling household junk and yard debris instead of driving all the way to a distant landfill. It’s the kind of place people swing by with a pickup or trailer to drop off loads that get compacted and trucked off-site.

There’s an entrance booth and a single lane to pull up before entering the yard; expect to stop at the booth and then move on to the drop-off areas. The site feels industrial - compactors, roll-off containers and a few concrete tipping bays set into the yard. Vehicles usually pull in, sort through the items at the edge of the bays, then tip contents into the appropriate container or compactor. Weekends and spring cleanup days can get backed up, so there can be a line of trucks waiting to get through.

Before You Go

  • Sort and stage materials in the vehicle before pulling up so unloading goes faster - keep loose trash, cardboard, and anything that might blow away covered and separate.
  • Bring gloves, a tarp and straps; windy days make loose loads a mess and tarps help keep things contained during the trip home.
  • Go early in the day on weekends if possible; lines thin out midweek and mornings, which saves time when several people are waiting to unload.
