Defiance County Landfill on Canal Road is where big household cleanouts and contractor loads end up when there’s nowhere else to take them. Locals and commercial haulers both use it, so expect a working, no-frills spot rather than anything like a transfer station or recycling center.
Most county landfills have an entrance booth and a scale; plan to pull up, check in at the booth, tip at the open face, then cross the scale again on the way out since charges are often weight-based. The site is mainly gravel drives, dirt cells and large mounded areas with heavy equipment moving material. Trucks and trailers back up to a drop point - be ready to position the vehicle and unload quickly. Weekends and spring cleanup season get the longest lines, so waits are common.
