Tuscarora Landfill, just off Old US Hwy 70 W near New Bern, is where larger household cleanouts and contractor loads end up. It’s a working landfill with heavy equipment and big cells for burying waste, used by both residents and commercial haulers. Tipping fees are handled by weight, so there’s a scale on site.
Pull up to the entrance area and the scale - vehicles are typically weighed in and then weighed out, since charges are based on weight. After weighing, follow the traffic of trucks to the dumping area; expect open dirt piles, compactors, and a dusty, noisy yard when big trucks are moving. Lines can get long on weekends and during spring cleanup times, so plan for waits. The site looks industrial rather than tidy, and unsecured loads can blow around if not covered.
