Read more →Scotland County Landfill is the county landfill out on Patterson Road in Maxton, used by residents and businesses to dispose of trash that gets buried on site. It’s the kind of place farmers, contractors, and homeowners towing trailers end up when curbside pickup won’t do. Expect a working, no-frills facility rather than anything fancy.
Drive in past a small entrance booth and you’ll likely see a scale-the norm is to be weighed so charges can be calculated by weight. Vehicles pull up, stop at the booth for directions, then head to the tip area where trucks and trailers dump loads into a working face. The site is mostly open dirt and compacted cells with heavy equipment moving around; watch for loaders and compactors. Recycling or special drop-off spots may be off to the side, and weekends or spring cleanup times can get noticeably busier.
