(336) 364-3699Republic Services Upper Piedmont Environmental Landfill is the big municipal/commercial landfill just off Oxford Road in Rougemont. Local residents and commercial haulers both use this site as the final stop for trash that gets buried rather than recycled. It’s the kind of place where large trucks and single-axle trailers mix with heavy equipment shaping the cells.
Expect a working industrial site: gravel roads, heavy machinery moving dirt and compacting loads, and a noticeable amount of dust or mud depending on recent weather. There’s a scale and an entrance booth where vehicles stop to be weighed and logged-tipping fees are calculated by weight, and residential loads usually have a minimum charge while commercial loads are accepted. Drivers pull up, get directed to the active dumping area, unload, and then stop at the scale again on the way out for the final weigh-out. Visibility is good from the road but the site is large, so follow the flow of trucks and any posted directions.
