Transfer Station

Republic Services Bishop Road Transfer Station

2140 Bishop Rd, Greensboro, NC 27406

(336) 724-0842

A working transfer station where household and small commercial loads are dropped off, compacted, and then hauled out to a landfill. Locals use it when hauling a trailer or a truckload is easier than driving to a distant landfill. It’s the sort of place people visit for bulk cleanouts or when curbside pickup won’t take something.

There’s an entrance booth and a scale-vehicles typically stop at the scale so outgoing weight can be recorded. After the booth, pull up to the unloading area where larger containers and compactors sit; the site feels industrial with concrete pads and heavy equipment. Smaller items and recyclables are often separated into bins near the drive-through area, so there’s usually a clear place to pull up and drop off. Weekends and spring-cleanup times tend to be busier, so expect some queueing if arriving midday.

Before You Go

  • Bring a tarp and tie-downs for loose material in a truck or trailer so nothing blows out while waiting in line.
  • Have items consolidated and ready to hand off-it speeds unloading and keeps the line moving.
  • Load vehicles so heavier stuff is easy to lift first and awkward items are accessible; it saves time and effort at the drop-off point.
