Iredell County Harmony Transfer Station

866 W Memorial Hwy, Harmony, NC 28634

(704) 539-5447

Small county transfer station in Harmony that locals use to drop off household trash and bulk items instead of driving to a distant landfill. The site compacts loads and hauls them off to a landfill elsewhere, so it feels more like a short stop than a full landfill run. Neighbors, landscapers and small haulers all turn up here when they have a pile to get rid of.

Drive up the short access road to a staffed entrance booth and be prepared to stop at a scale - many transfer stations charge by weight so there’s usually a weigh-in and a weigh-out. After the booth, pull into one of the concrete tipping bays or drive-up platforms where trucks and pickups drop their loads into a compaction area. The lot is not huge but has room for a few vehicles to queue; weekends and spring cleanup times often mean a line. It looks utilitarian: concrete pads, a few bays, fencing and heavy equipment working in the back.

Before You Go

  • Expect lines on weekend mornings and during spring cleanup; arriving earlier in the day usually saves time.
  • Cover and secure loose loads so nothing blows out while queuing, and have materials grouped in the truck to speed unloading.
  • Be ready to stop at the scale and then again when leaving - plan an extra 10–20 minutes compared with a regular drop-off.
