Halifax County Landfill

921 Liles Rd, Littleton, NC 27850

Halifax County Landfill in Littleton is the county’s main place where trash gets buried and where both residents and local haulers drop off loads. Neighbors, landscapers and commercial trucks all use it when regular pickup won’t do or for big cleanouts, so expect a mix of cars and big rigs on site.

There’s a drive-up entrance with a scale booth to stop at - vehicles are weighed, so plan for a brief stop on the way in and again when leaving. The site looks like any municipal landfill: open compacted cells, heavy equipment moving around, and piles of cover dirt and put-back areas. Commercial loads are accepted and handled differently than small residential trips, with larger trucks queued separately at busy times. Because North Carolina has separate rules for electronics and hazardous materials, those items are usually handled outside the regular landfill tipping process and may require a different drop-off path.

Before You Go

  • Secure tarps and tie down loose material before getting on the road; wind blows across that stretch and loose debris can be a headache.
  • Bring a clear plan of what’s in the truck-separating bulky items from general trash makes unloading faster, especially when crews are busy.
  • Expect longer lines on weekends and during spring cleanup; give extra time and avoid peak late-morning hours if possible.
