GFL Sanford Transfer Station

3290 McDonald Dr, Sanford, NC 27330

(910) 423-4122

GFL Sanford Transfer Station is the local transfer station on McDonald Drive that many Sanford residents use when they don't want to drive all the way to a distant landfill. Neighborhoods and small haulers bring household trash and bulk items here to be compacted and moved offsite.

The site looks like a typical transfer station - a small entrance booth, a scale, and large compacting bays with trucks coming and going. Pull up to the booth to check in, then follow the flow toward the tipping floor where crews or equipment handle the load. There are usually separate drop spots for recyclables and bulky items set off to the side of the main bays. Weekends and spring cleanup days tend to be noticeably busier, with lines of trucks and trailers waiting to get in.

Before You Go

  • Bring your load loosely covered or tied down so nothing blows out while waiting in line; wind can pick up on McDonald Drive.
  • Have items separated before getting to the tipping area - recyclables, metal, and bulk things go easier if they’re sorted ahead of time.
  • Arrive early in the morning on busy days to avoid the longest lines; weekends get backed up more than weekdays.
