City of Albemarle Landfill on Stony Gap Road is where most of Albemarle’s household trash and larger hauls end up. Neighbors and commercial haulers both use the site, and like most landfills there’s a scale and tipping fees based on weight rather than a flat price.
Pull in off Stony Gap Road and you'll see an entrance booth and a weigh scale where vehicles queue up; plan to stop there first and possibly again when leaving if charged by weight. The property is the usual landfill layout - large compacted mounds and cover material, with trucks turning around and working areas spread out. Lines build up on weekends and during spring cleanup, so traffic and maneuvering can get tight. Expect heavier trucks and longer waits when commercial loads are coming through.
