Central Landfill in the McNeill/Poplarville area is the county-scale spot where household and commercial garbage ends up for burial. Locals and haulers use it for big loads that won’t fit at smaller convenience centers, and it’s the place to go when curbside or drop-off just won’t cut it.
A scale house and weigh station are at the entrance - vehicles drive onto the scale and are weighed so tipping fees reflect the load. The site is large and mostly open, with compacted dirt roads and working faces where trucks back in to tip; expect a working-construction feel rather than anything tidy. Pull up to the booth first to check in, then follow signs or flagging to the active tipping area; on the way out there’s typically a second stop for a final weigh. Weekends and spring cleanup times get busier, so queues and slow-moving trucks are common.
