Orange County Transfer Station No. 1

21 Training Center Ln, New Hampton, NY 10958

(845) 291-2640

Orange County Transfer Station No. 1 is the town transfer station in New Hampton where residents drop off household trash for compaction and transport to a landfill. Local homeowners, small contractors, and people cleaning out garages tend to use it when a trip to a distant landfill isn’t convenient.

The site is the typical transfer-station setup: an entrance booth and a scale near the driveway, then a few lanes that lead up to the tipping area. Vehicles pull up to the booth to get directed, then drive onto the scale and over to the drop-off area where trash is emptied into large containers or pits for compacting. The facility looks industrial-concrete pads, big metal containers, and trucks coming and going-so expect dust and the normal noises of compactors and loaders. Weekends, especially in spring and fall, often see a line of cars and trucks waiting to get through.

Before You Go

  • Bring help for heavy items: there are no ramps or equipment for homeowners to lift large bulky items by themselves.
  • Bring sturdy, covered containers or tied bags so loose debris doesn’t spill during the drive in; cardboard boxes and loose trash can be a hassle.
  • Arrive early in the morning on weekends if possible to beat the busiest time and reduce waiting behind contractor trucks.
