San Juan County Regional Landfill in Aztec is the county landfill where household and commercial trash ends up being buried. Locals, landscapers and contractors use it for loads that don't go to curbside pickup. It's a large, working site - expect trucks, compactors and open cells.
Drive in past an entrance booth and cross a scale - landfills generally charge by weight, so stopping at a scale is part of the routine. After the scale there's room to stage and then a spot to dump depending on what you brought, so have an idea of what's in each load. The site is big enough for full-size trucks and trailers, but smaller rigs sometimes need to back up or maneuver around larger equipment. Weekends and spring-cleanup times get backed up, so lines are common then.
