Transfer Station

Magdalena Transfer Station

300 Spears Road, Magdalena, NM 87825

(575) 854-2262

Small-town transfer station used by Magdalena residents to drop off household trash and smaller bulk items. The place compacts loads here and then hauls them out to a landfill, so it’s the nearer option for most folks instead of driving to a distant dump. Expect mostly local pickups and pickup trucks pulling through during busy days.

A single-lane entrance with a little attendant booth where vehicles stop before entering the yard; larger trucks turn into a wearing pad where the compactor sits. Pull up slowly - passenger vehicles and small trailers share the same drive, so watch for backing trucks. There’s a visible pile area and a compactor or transfer container; trash isn’t left loose like at a curbside pickup. Lines form on weekends and during seasonal cleanups, so allow extra time when it’s busy.

Before You Go

  • Bring helpers to unload - the drop point can be a short walk from where a truck or trailer sits, and heavy items often need a hand.
  • Secure loose items and cover dusty loads; wind is common in the high-desert and can blow debris while waiting in line.
  • Arrive midweek or early morning to avoid the weekend rush, especially during spring cleanup season.
