Cerro Colorado Landfill

18000 Cerro Colorado SW, Albuquerque, NM 87121

(505) 761-8300

Cerro Colorado Landfill is the big county landfill way out on the southwest side of Albuquerque, used by both residents and commercial haulers. It’s where loads get buried rather than recycled or processed, so most people bring yard waste, construction debris, or full truckloads here. The place serves a wide area, including some rural routes that don’t have local drop-off options.

There’s a drive-up entrance with a scale booth - vehicles stop to be weighed and will likely stop again when leaving since tipping fees are charged by weight. The site itself looks like a large open pit with rolling earth piles and compacted cover; expect gravel drives and heavy equipment moving around. Commercial trucks are accepted, so anticipate larger vehicles and truck traffic alongside pickups and trailers. Recycling or drop-off bins, if present, are usually off to the side of the main drop area rather than mixed in with the burial sections.

Before You Go

  • Have loads secured and tarped if required; loose debris can blow off on the approach road and create extra cleanup time.
  • Bring a clear description of what’s in the load and be prepared to pull over to the scale booth for weighing both in and out.
  • Avoid weekend mornings if possible - spring cleanup and holiday weekends tend to draw bigger lines and more commercial haulers.
