Caja del Rio Landfill is the main landfill out on Wildlife Way in Santa Fe, used by homeowners, haulers, and contractors for final disposal. It’s the kind of place people go when a pickup or trailer load needs to be buried rather than recycled or hauled away.
There’s an entrance booth and a scale, so expect to stop for weighing - tipping fees are generally based on weight or load size and many landfills accept commercial loads. The site is large and open with dirt roads, compacted waste piles, and a high tipping area; it can be dusty and uneven underfoot. Pull up to the booth and follow the flow of traffic; larger trucks and roll-offs are a common sight and turning space can be tight. Lines build up on weekends and during seasonal cleanups, so be prepared for a short wait at busy times.
