Belen Transfer Station

135 Cll De Baca, Belen, NM 87002

Belen Transfer Station is the local transfer station in Belen where residents drop off household and yard refuse to be compacted and hauled to a landfill. People from town and nearby rural areas use it when they don’t want to drive out to a distant landfill. The facility is set up for short-term drop-offs rather than long-term storage.

Drive up to an entrance booth and be prepared to stop briefly before proceeding; many transfer stations use a scale and charge by weight. Vehicles pull forward to temporary unloading spots or walk-up platforms where loads are tipped into bins or compactors. The site is open, with dusty surfaces and heavy equipment moving around, so trailers and loose items should be tied down. Recycling or drop-off containers are often grouped to one side, with the main compaction area visible beyond them.

Before You Go

  • Secure loose materials and cover loads - gusty desert wind can scatter debris quickly.
  • Go early in the day or midweek if possible; weekends and spring cleanup times tend to have the longest lines.
  • Bring gloves and sturdy shoes, and have someone to help lift heavy items rather than trying to do it alone.
