Salem County Sanitary Landfill in Alloway is the county landfill where residents and haulers drop off material that will be buried. It’s a large, active site used by homeowners doing cleanouts and by commercial trucks hauling loads from around the county.
There’s a scale/scale house at the entrance where vehicles stop to be weighed; tipping fees are typically charged by weight at the scale or by load, as is common for landfills. Pull up to the booth to check in, then follow the internal road to the working face where trucks tip-expect gravel roads, heavy equipment, and the layered mounds of compacted material and cover. Lines build up on weekends and during spring cleanups, so be prepared for a bit of waiting during busy periods.
