Russell Pass Sanitary Landfill is the county landfill out on Schurz Highway (Hwy 95) near Fallon, where local residents, contractors and haulers bring trash for burial. It’s a working landfill - the final place garbage is buried - and tipping fees at places like this are usually charged by weight; many landfills also accept commercial loads.
There’s a small entrance booth and a scale you’ll cross, so expect to stop on the way in and again on the way out. Pull up with the other trucks and follow the dirt roads to the active dumping area; the site is open, dusty at times, and dominated by mounded cells and spread dirt. Big trucks are common, so give plenty of room when backing up and watch for traffic moving around the tipping areas. Weekends and spring-cleanup season tend to have the longest lines, so plan for a wait.
