Gerlach Transfer Station is the small transfer site on Transfer Station Rd that locals use when hauling trash from town instead of driving all the way to the nearest landfill. Truck beds, trailers and neighborhood pickups show up here - mostly residents and small haulers. It’s a practical stop for getting household junk consolidated into bigger trucks headed out of the county.
Pull up to a booth near the entrance and there’s usually traffic flow onto a scale and then over to the compactor area; many transfer stations handle loads by weight, so be prepared to stop twice. The site itself looks like a fenced yard with piles, roll-offs, and a couple of large containers; nothing fancy, mostly gravel and metal structures. Recycling bins tend to sit off to one side and larger trucks back into dumping bays while smaller vehicles are directed to a pit or drop-off curb. Lines build up on weekends and during spring cleanups, so there can be a bit of waiting.
