Carson City Sanitary Landfill

Carson City Sanitary Landfill, 7001 Highway 50 E, Carson City, 89701, Nevada

Carson City Sanitary Landfill on Highway 50 East is the city's main place for burying trash - residents and haulers both use it. It’s a large, working landfill with a scale/booth setup and a tipping-fee system based on weight. Commercial trucks turn through here regularly alongside smaller pickups and trailers.

Drive up to a small entrance booth and a scale; vehicles are typically weighed so expect to stop on the way in and again when you leave. The site is big and mostly dirt - compaction equipment and piles of covered material are visible from the access road. Pull into the lane, follow the flow of traffic to a dumping spot, and watch for uneven, dusty surfaces and turning heavy equipment. Lines build on weekends and during spring cleanup season, so there can be waits.

Before You Go

  • Secure and tarp loose loads before hitting the highway; it keeps debris from blowing out and saves time at the scale.
  • Aim for midweek or early mornings if possible - weekends and spring-cleanup times tend to back up.
  • Make sure trailers and trucks are ready to back into a dumping spot quickly; tight turns and moving equipment mean it helps to be organized and fast.
